Waitlist Basics
What is a waitlist?
A waitlist is an electronic list of students who want to enroll in a course that has reached maximum capacity (closed). Waitlisting is a registration option, not automatic. Each waitlist is built on a first-come, first-served basis and is prioritized according to the date and time students select the waitlist option.
How does a waitlist work?
Students register for courses through the Banner Web registration system. When a course reaches maximum enrollment, students may opt to waitlist for the course.
As seats become available in a course, waitlisted students will be moved from the waitlist to the course automatically according to waitlist priority. Students moved from a waitlist to a course will receive an email addressed to their Plattsburgh State Webmail accounts.
Students must check this account or forward this account to their preferred e-mail address. Logon to Banner Web and select My E-mail Account to edit or learn more about your Webmail account. Plattsburgh uses Plattsburgh Webmail as the official mode of communication to notify students when they have been moved from a waitlist into a course.
Students may drop a waitlisted course at any time during registration. All students are responsible for the accuracy of their course schedules.
What are the requirements to waitlist?
Registration rules apply to the waitlist process. Inability to waitlist or to move from a waitlist into a course may be due to one or more of the following registration restrictions:
- campus
- class level
- student level
- major
- degree program
- time
- test score
- prerequisite/corequsite
- maximum credits allowed exceeded
- the course requires the approval of the instructor, chairperson, or coordinator to register

Directions for Waitlisting
The registration waitlist option is available during priority registration and course adjustment periods only.
A. Access the web at: http://banweb.cc.plattsburgh.edu
- Login to Banner Web
- Enter User ID (social security number; no spaces/hyphens)
- Enter PIN (login)
B. Follow the links below:
- Student Menu
- Registration Menu
- Select Term
- Submit Term
- Add/Drop Classes
C. Follow the steps below:
- Enter a course registration number (CRN) for the desired course (or use the class search option and select a course).
- When the "closed course" registration error message appears in the Status field, use the drop-down arrow under the Action field to select the waitlist option.
- Click Submit Changes to enter the waitlist action.
- When you successfully wait list, the waitlisted course will appear under the Current Schedule section.
To Remove Your Name From a Waitlist
- Enter the Banner Web registration system (Add/Drop Menu)
- Use the drop-down arrow under the Action field and select Web Drop
- Click Submit Changes.
SUNY Policy: Students are responsible for all courses on their registration records and the tuition and fees associated with these courses. Non-attendance in registered courses does not remove financial and academic liability.
