E.O.P. Admission Requirements

Students qualify for E.O.P. admission by meeting both of the following academic and financial requirements:

Qualifying Academically

Freshmen

Eligible E.O.P. freshman applicants are academically underprepared for the college curriculum they wish to pursue and qualify for E.O.P. admission to Plattsburgh State with high-school averages (or GED scores) and SAT or ACT scores below the typical Plattsburgh admission requirements (these typical requirements are roughly a B high-school average and 1,000 combined SAT scores or a 22 composite ACT score).

At the same time, high-school transcripts and/or GED scores must reflect the potential to succeed in college, and EOP admission for freshmen is dependent on the student's successful completion of the pre-freshman summer program.

Transfer Students

E.O.P. transfer applicants must meet the same academic qualifications as their non-EOP peers (these requirements are a 2.0 cumulative grade point average [GPA] at their transfer colleges). In addition, they must be able to verify previous E.O.P., H.E.O.P., S.E.E.K., or College Discovery enrollment at their transfer institutions.

If the transfer college did not have one of the above programs, then the transfer applicant must verify eligibility for EOP admission at the time of her or his first entry into college.

Note : You cannot apply for both the E.O.P. and Early Decision programs.

Qualifying Financially

The table below lists financial eligibility requirements for E.O.P. admission for the 2009-2010 academic year. To be economically disadvantaged, a student must belong to a household that is defined in Category A, B, or C or by the exceptions noted below:

  Category A Category B Category C

6 $42,650 $48,060 $50,770
7** $48,060* $53,470* $56,180*

Note:
**7+ in each category, add $5,410 for each family member in excess of seven

Household Income Categories:

            Income from Non-Employment Sources

                              A.             Supported by one or more individuals whose combined total annual income is from Social Security or sources other than employment and which does not exceed the applicable amount under “ Category A” above.

            Salary/Wage Income

                              B.             Supported by one or more worker(s) whose combined total annual income does not exceed the applicable amount under “Category B” above.

                              C.             For households supported by one worker with two or more employers, which does not exceed the applicable amount under “Category C” above.

Exceptions to Income Guidelines

  1. You or your family receive payment from Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Home Relief, Safety Net, or Family Day Care through a New York or County Department of Social Services, Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, or Office of Children and Family Assistance.
  2. You live with foster parents who do not provide support for college, and your natural parents provide no such support.
  3. You are a ward of the state or county.

There is no change in the income guidelines if a family has more than one household member in college. When family income exceeds the guidelines, students can still be admitted if unusual circumstances can be documented. The typical cases involve unavailability of parental financial support due to illness, disability, neglect, or abuse.

Applicants who are under 24 and single cannot be considered independent unless they meet the federal guidelines for independent or the Plattsburgh State financial aid office invokes professional judgment to declare the student independent when unusual circumstances can be documented.
