Overview of Learning Center Services
The Learning Center professional and student staff offer several different services to help you strengthen your strategies for academic success.
Our Learning to Learn Workshop Series
provides an overview of necessary academic skills. Academic Personal Trainers
can meet with you individually to help you devise and develop study strategies specific to your needs and the expectations of the courses.
Our most popular service, however, is content and course specific tutoring. The following three easy steps guide you through the process of meeting with a tutor.
Step 1: Is tutoring available for the course I need help in?
You can stop by the Learning Center in person. Or you can find out if we have support in place for the course(s) you are interested in on the web. Courses We Tutor is updated each semester.
If you do not see your course listed, don't worry. Stop by the Learning Center to fill out the Tutor Request Form at our front desk. As we work towards finding and training a tutor to meet with you, you should contact the professor to discuss the course and consider forming an independent study group with your classmates. For more information on forming a study group, see Tips for Group Study, and our other Academic Resources links.
Step 2: What type of tutoring is best for me and my course?
Our tutors are trained to work with you individually, in small groups, and during walk-in sessions. Our center is also open to support independent individual and small groups during Open Study.
You can find out more about the different types of tutoring and our policies under "Services" or by following these links:
Step 3: How do I meet with the tutor?
If, as in most cases, we already have a trained tutor available for appointments, stop by the Learning Center front desk to make an appointment and complete the Tutoring Contract.
Please Note: If you are making a Small Group or Double Appointment, all students who will be meeting with the tutor MUST be present to make the appointment. If all students are not present, only those who are will be able to make an appointment with the tutor.
In addition to scheduling an appointment with our tutors, you can attend a Walk-In Session for a variety of courses. To see which courses have a Walk-In this semester go to our Walk-In Sessions Schedule.
